Installation
What is the minimum specification for the software?
We recommend a minimum of a Pentium 4 2.6GHz with 512MB RAM running Windows 2000/XP at a minimum resolution of 1024x768 (although we recommend 1280x1024 or above).
What are the prerequisites for the software?
This software requires Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 to run.
Will the software run on Oracle?
This software currently only support Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000, however we do have plans to support Oracle in the future. No other databases are currently being considered.
How many licenses do I need?
You need 1 capture license for each PC that will be running Capsure Enterprise or Capsure Export. These are not concurrent licenses, so if you have 10 PCs, even if only 5 are ever used at the same time, you will need 10 licenses.
Can I copy the software to another PC?
So long as you have enough licenses, you can copy the software to as many PCs as you like. All you need to do is copy the installation folder (typically 'C:\Program Files\Capgen\Capsure 3') to the same location on the new PC. No installation is required aside from the pre-requisites and any short cuts required.
Do I need a dedicated server?
No, you do not need a dedicated server. In fact, you can just use one of the client PCs as the server. If you are going to be running a large number of users or performing large amounts of capture, then we would suggest that a dedicated server would improve performance. Also, you should consider backup and recovery issues.
How much disk space do I need on the server?
Typically the database will require 1GB-10GB (although with very large projects it could be more). If you are scanning black and white A4 documents, 1,000,000 images will require around 30GB-50GB.
Will it work in Windows Vista?
The software is currently only supported for Windows 2000/XP/2003. It may work in Vista, but has not been tested and currently we do not provide support for this platform.
How can I add more licenses?
This process is fairly simple. Once you have contacted us to purchase the required additional licenses, then we will email you a license file. You then add these licenses by using the 'Add License' option within the license manager application.
Scanning
How do I install a scanner?
Generally, follow the instructions with the scanner to install either the TWAIN or ISIS driver. Then within the software, on the scan screen, select the appropriate interface and then select you scanner from the list displayed. If you are intending to use ISIS drivers, you will also need to install the ISIS setup that comes with Capsure and purchase an add-on license to use the ISIS support.
I can't select my scanner, My scanner won't scan, ...
For most scanning issues, you should first try the following:
  1. Switch off the scanner
  2. Switch off the PC
  3. Switch on the scanner
  4. Switch on the PC
  5. Try scanning again
If the problem continues then contact us.
My scanner still isn't working
If you have already tried the general solution for scanner issues outlined above, then read the troubleshooting section in the manual that came with the scanner.
The manual was no help and I still can't scan in Capsure
Try scanning in some other software, such as Adobe Acrobat. If you are unable to scan in the other software, then please contact your scanner supplier, otherwise, contact us.
All of my scanned images are very poor quality
Check all of your scanning settings and if these are OK, then read the scanner manual on how to clean the cameras in the scanner.
My images are skew, have black borders, hole punch marks, etc.
Try enabling some of the clean-up options within the Capsure software, such as AutoDeskew, AutoCrop, Edge Cleanup, Blob Removal, etc.
Indexing
How can I quickly move to the next/previous indexed record
Page Up/Page Down
Exporting
How can I create a custom text file with my export?
If you create a custom export, then you can configure it to create any format of text file you like. You can format the index data any way you like, add any other additional data, place data in any order and name the file based on any combination of index and fixed data.
I want to upload directly into my document management system, how do I do this?
Currently we provide a plug-in to enable direct upload to Documentum. If you require a plug-in for any other EDM then please contact us and we will be more than happy to implement this for you.
OCRing my documents seems to be taking a very long time.
OCR is not a quick process. It should take between 2 and 10 seconds per page depending on the speed of the computer, the quality of the image and the amount of text on the page.
OCR seems to consistently fail on the same page
Try rescanning the page and then trying again. If this fails try rescanning at a higher resolution.
I have made some corrections to index data and don't wish to redo the OCR
Select the 'Data only' check box and only the text files associated with the export will be redone.
Capsure General
I can't find a batch in the batch browser
There could be several reasons for this. Firstly there are filters at the top of the batch browser that will for example show only the last week's batches. Try setting this to no filter. Another alternative is that the batch is marked as inactive or archived. You can check this in Capsure Manager. Finally if you have exported this batch to Find & View you will no longer be able to accessit from Capsure. What you will need to do is locate the batch in Capsure Manager and select 'Return to Capsure'.
I am unable to move the dockable windows.
